Lake Palestine is a popular lake for fishing, boating, waterskiing and jet skiing. The lake has some nice, quiet coves that provide protection from the wind.
Boating and fishing are the main activities on Lake Palestine but there is also hunting available in the area. The most common fish caught at Lake Palestine are large-mouth bass, white bass, hybrid-striped bass, channel catfish, blue catfish, flathead catfish, crappie and bream. There are several Bass Tournaments on Lake Palestine each year which draw a lot of fishermen.
Lake Palestine is located in the heart of the east Texas forest trails about 20 miles from Tyler and 100 miles from Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. There is limited access to the lake but there are enough public boat ramps, parks and marinas for the boaters and fishermen.
Lake Palestine is approximately 18 miles long with 135 miles of shoreline The lake has an average depth of around 16 feet with the maximum depth being 58 feet. It has a surface area of 25,500 acres. The dam is 5,270 feet long and 70 feet high above the streambed.
The climate in the Lake Palestine area is temperate with an average rainfall of around 40 inches a year. This provides good conditions for lots of wildlife and birds. The American Bald Eagle can occasionally be spotted around the lake.
Local residents enjoy the country atmosphere along with the nature and wildlife, and it is only a short drive to the city for their shopping and other needs. Golfing is good in the area and golfers can enjoy their hobby almost year round.
There are several small towns around Lake Palestine including: Cherokee Landing, Cuney, Frankston, Berryville, Coffee City, Fincastle, Moore Station, Antioch, Evelyn, Chandler, Galilee, Noonday, and Pine Trail Estates. Visitors to the area have fun shopping in the local towns for antiques, gifts, clothing, jewelry and souvenirs. Several of the towns have historic monuments, buildings and other things you may want to photograph.
