Lake Texoma, the tenth largest lake in the United States, boasts over 1,000 miles of shoreline and spans 89,000 acres of water. Its diverse landscape includes white sandy beaches, tree-shaded slopes, and rugged rocky cliffs, making it a scenic paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.
Straddling the Texas-Oklahoma border along the Red River, Lake Texoma is conveniently located—just an hour from Dallas and about two hours from Oklahoma City. Widely recognized as one of the top fishing lakes in the country, it’s also one of the most visited recreation destinations in the Southwest. In fact, The Dallas Morning News has named Lake Texoma the number one lake in Texas.
Thanks to its size, depth, and expansive shoreline, Lake Texoma has emerged as a premier sailing destination—truly a dream for sailing enthusiasts. Visitors can rent a variety of watercraft or take advantage of the numerous marinas to dock and store their boats.
The lake is home to 54 parks, including two state parks, two national wildlife refuges, 26 resorts, and hundreds of campgrounds, offering countless ways to experience the great outdoors. Whether you're planning a picnic, launching a boat, casting a line, or simply relaxing lakeside, Lake Texoma has you covered.
Accommodations are plentiful, with options ranging from resorts, cabins, and lake houses to condos, bed and breakfasts, motels, and RV parks.
Fishing at Lake Texoma is legendary. The lake has produced five consecutive Texas state-record smallmouth bass. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1940s, the lake was initially stocked with black bass and crappie, complementing the native white bass from the Red and Washita Rivers.
Wildlife lovers will find plenty to explore. The Hagerman and Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuges are havens for birdwatchers, and the surrounding project lands are open for hunting—home to whitetail deer, rabbit, squirrel, dove, duck, geese, and quail. The lake also offers some of the best duck hunting in the Central Flyway.
