Popular Tourist Towns in Texas
- Blanco - The city of Blanco is located on on it namesake, the Blanco River, and has a nice large park at the dam on the river for tourists to enjoy. They have another very nice park, too, and tourist shopping and events.
- Burnet - The Bluebonnet Capital of Texas, Burnet has several antique stores, the Burnet Square and Court House, Hamilton Creek Park, the Burnatand several events throughout the year. Burnet is only about 15 minutes from Lake Buchanan and Inks Lake, about 55 miles northwest of Austin.
- Camp Wood - Camp Wood is located on the Nueces River at the intersection of Farm Road 337 and Texas Highway 55. FM 337 between Camp Wood through Leakey, and Vanderpool to Medina has been called "One of the fifteen most scenic spots in Texas" by Texas Highways, November 1998.
- Canyon Lake - The city of Canyon Lake is on Canyon Lake which has 80 miles of scenic shoreline. Canyon Lake is located approximately half way between San Antonio and Austin, approximately 14 miles northeast of New Braunfels on FM 306 west from IH-35.
- Fredericksburg - This town boasts over 400 bed and breakfasts anf is the shoppers paradise of Texas with well over 100 shops featuring antiques, hand crafted merchandise, clothing, gifts, jewelry, western items, furniture...just about anything the shopper would need. Located 70 miles west of Austin and 68 miles northwest of San Antonio.
- Granbury - Granbury is a popular tourist town about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth. It is a historic town that also has Lake Granbury for the tourists to enjoy.
- Granite Shoals - This peaceful tourist town of 5,000 is nestled on the south shore of the Colorado River and the north shore of Lake LBJ.
- Gruene - Gruene is often called a "historical town", but it is really a "historical district" that is part of the fast-growing city of New Braunfels. Don't believe us? Look up the world-famous Gruene Hall. It has a New Braunfels address. Located between Austin and San Antonio, it is popular because of the river tubing, the live music, dining and wine tastings, etc. Check out their B & B Inns.
- Horseshoe Bay - Located on Lake LBJ and the south branch of the Colorado river. Popular for boating, fishing, swimming, and waterskiing.
- Kerrville - Located on the Guadulupe river. Kerrville, Texas, with its great climate throughout the whole year, is a popular tourist destination for summer activities like boating, swimming and golf and also in the winter for "Winter Texans" or "Snowbirds".
- Kingsland - Located on Lake LBJ, one of the few constant-level lakes in Texas, where the Llano and Colorado rivers join the lake. Popular for boating, fishing, swimming, arts & crafts festivals. A great place to rent a lake house or cabin for the weekend or park your RV. Located 60 miles northwest of Austin. Both a recreation and retirement town.
- Leakey - Leakey is sometimes referred to as "The Swiss Alps of Texas", area elevations range from 1,500 to 2,400 feet with deep canyons cut by the Nueces River and Frio Rivers, which offers anything from whitewater rapids to flats to swimming holes and great fishing.
- Lockhart - The BBQ Capital of Texas also has a beautiful town square with the gorgeous, historic Caldwell County Courthouse.
- Marble Falls - Marble Falls is on Lake Marble Falls about 45 miles northwest of Austin and 80 miles north of San Antonio. Lake Marble Falls is a normally constant level lake that is good for boating and waterskiing.
- Port Aransas - Located on the Gulf of Mexico. Popular for the beaches, boating, fishing, cruises and tours, swimming, sunbathing, tourists stores.
- Rockport - This cozy beach town is located on the Gulf of Mexico. Popular for the beaches, boating, fishing and much more.
- San Marcos - Home to some the the best Outlet Malls in Texas. Swim and tube in the crystal clear San
Marcos River. Tour the historic buildings and dine on the riverfront restaurants.
- South Padre Island - Located on the Gulf of Mexico. Offers the best in swimming, sunbathing, etc.
- Wimberley - Wimberley may be listed last on this list because the listing is done alphabetically, but it is far from the least favorite with the tourists in Texas. Tourists love this beautiful town with its tourist shopping, artists, crafts, and dining.This town will remind you of a wonderful mountain village with all of its
beautiful scenery on the Blanco River and Cypress Creek.
